Top 5 science-fiction books that deserve a Hollywood big-screen treatment

1.The Demolished Man by Alfred Bester

In a future where government-backed telepaths have reduced the crime rate to zero, a ruthless business executive gets away with murder to resolve some daddy issues.

Who should star? Hugh Jackman (again!) as Ben Reich
Who should direct? Ridley Scott (Alien, Prometheus)

2.Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson

Hiro, a katana-wielding pizza-delivery boy and part-time hacker teams up with a sk8rgrl to defeat a deadly computer virus in a fragmented, “virtualized” future USA. Predicted accurately the applications of Google Earth and augmented reality.

I saw in a number of posts that there is a director already attached to this, along with possible casting suggestions.

Who should star? Michael B. Jordan (Chronicle, That Awkward Moment) as Hiro, Stephanie Leonidas (SyFy’s Defiance) as YT
Who should direct? Joe Cornish (Attack The Block)

3. The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch by Philip K. Dick

UN-backed drug trafficking?  Collectible doll sets that are being used by  players in Skylanders-esque simulations – why not???

After all, PKD’s extensive body of work has always been picked over by countless Hollywood hacks, so why not one more to toss in the fire?

Who should star? Kevin Bacon as Palmer Eldritch
Who should direct? Rian Johnson (Looper)

4.The Wanderer by Fritz Leiber

Cat-like aliens threaten to invade Earth from their planet-sized Death Star-esque ships. They start with ripping up our Moon and all shit breaks loose (tsunamis, flooding, etc.) down here.

Given the proven box-office appeal of alien-invasion and global-catastrophe films, what’s preventing producers from green-lighting a possible film version?

Who should star? Jason Segel as Paul Hagbolt, Amy Adams as Margo Gelhorn, Mark Wahlberg as Don Merriam, Lucy Liu (mo-capped) as Tigerishka, Lea Michele as Sally Harris
Who should direct? Roland Emmerich

5.Stranger In A Strange Land by Robert Heinlein

A humanoid Martian is brought to Earth, develops super-powers (of a sort), gets adopted by some millionaire writer (and his harem) then becomes a multi-media sensation before setting up some kooky cult.  Particularly notable for accurately depicting waterbeds before they became common household fixtures.

Who should star? Ryan Gosling as Valentine Michael Smith, Jack Nicholson as Jubal Harshaw & Margot Robbie (The Wolf Of Wall Street) as Jill Broadman
Who should direct? Duncan Jones (Source Code)
