I was pretty surprised that this just came out early last month in Japan:
This live-action adaptation of Eiko Kadono’s light novel series Majo no Takkyubin (which inspired Hayao Miyazaki‘s classic anime film) is getting mixed reviews; nevertheless, you can’t fault director Takashi Shimizu (shifting gears from the horror/suspense genre) for at least getting the setting right (yup, expect rolling Ghibli hills as far as the eye can see).
Original Japanese trailer (with English subtitles)
Drawing more on the original light novel series than the universally-loved Miyazaki adaptation, the film stars figure skater-turned-actress Fuka Koshiba as the titular Kiki and a cast that includes Tadanobu Asano as Dr. Ishi.
Don’t know if this would get a Philippine release, given that the title character’s name sounds rather vulgar in the vernacular.
