They may not be as recognisable as Spider-Man, Captain America and a third of the X-Men, but that’s not stopping Marvel Studios from using this as a tentpole for the 2nd iteration of its Marvel Cinematic Universe (or maybe even a possible excuse to cross-over with the Star Wars universe, now that Marvel and Lucasfilm both share a new corporate parent)

Translating comic-book space-operatics to the wide screen has always been a tricky proposition (we’re looking at you, Green Lantern!!!).   Under the playful eye of the ever-subversive genre director James Gunn, expect at best an underrated summer box-office dark-horse.  The trailer alone sees Marvel Studios venturing into – ehem!!! – slightly more adult territory than its usual Summer Blockbuster™ fare. Then again, where else would you see Academy Award-winner Glenn Close (in Big Bad mode as Nova Corps head Rael) rubbing elbows with WWE ‘rassler Dave “Batista” Bautista?
